The Analysis on the Development Potential of the Cyclotourism in Călimani and Suhard Mountains

In Romania, in comparison with other European countries, the cyclotourism is at an early stage of development both in terms of quantity and quality of the existing cyclotourism infrastructure or in terms of informative and promotional materials. On the other hand, there has been an increasing demand expressed by the Romanian tourists for active holidays in the last years which often involves the bike as a recreational way of spending the holiday.

The remote mountain zones of the Romanian Carpathians are the main destinations for the amateur or professional cyclists during June-September. They are seen as niche tourists willing to explore wild territories, taste traditional gastronomy and actively take part to various events of local flavor. As a matter of fact, the big advantage of the cyclotourists in the spirit of durable development, is that of exploring remote communities which do not have access to the classical tourist infrastructure and without leaving the tourist print on the natural environment and those remote localities.

The present article analyzes the potential of the cyclotourism in Călimani and Suhard Mountains and points out o series of cyclotourism theme routes with GPS maps.
